Officer Awarded Commendation and Pin of Excellence
On January 12, 2018, Officer Todd Fibich was travelling on I45 to a call for service when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officer Fibich took a mental note of the vehicle and continued to the call.
After closing the call, Officer Fibich learned of a shooting occurred at Gay Family Auto Dealership in Dickinson and the shooters vehicle description was broadcast. Officer Fibich determined that there was a high probability that the speeding vehicle he observed earlier was likely the suspect vehicle.
Officer Fibich soon located the vehicle and confirmed it was the suspect vehicle by its license plate. After other officers arrived to assist, Officer Fibich attempted a traffic stop but the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, Officer Fibich was able to effectively communicate pertinent information that gave them the best opportunity for apprehending the suspect safely. After a 3-mile pursuit, the vehicle stopped in front of a residence outside of our city and the suspect fled on foot.
The suspect attempted to enter a residence but the door was locked. After refusing officer commands, Officer Fibich deployed his taser, striking the suspect and ending his escape attempt. As the suspect fell backwards, a revolver fell from the suspects person. Officer Fibich placed the suspect in custody without further incident.
The keen observation skills of Officer Fibich combined with textbook pursuit technique resulted in the apprehension of a dangerous armed suspect that had just shot a victim 5 times.
For his actions during this dangerous event, on February 14, 2018, Officer Todd Fibich was awarded a Commendation and Excellence Pin by League City Police Chief Gary Ratliff.
Editors Note: This was good police work and I'm glad officer Todd Fibich was recognized for his service.
